Treating dry hair
Treating dry hair
Normally, the scalp secretes sebum, which travels down the hair shaft, moisturizing and protecting the hair. With dry hair, this process is insufficient, causing the hair to be:
dull,
brittle or split,
rough to the touch,
and difficult to comb.
Causes of dry hair
There are several factors that can cause or worsen dry hair:
Excessive washing (especially with sulfate shampoos).
Heat: blow dryer, straightener, or curling iron.
Chemical treatments: dyeing, bleaching, or perming.
Weather influences: sun, wind, salt water, or chlorine.
Age and hormones: hair can become drier as you age.
Health and nutrition: vitamin or mineral deficiencies.
Symptoms
You often recognize dry hair by:
lifeless and dull appearance,
split ends,
frizz and brittleness,
itchy or tight scalp.
Natural solutions
Choose a mild, sulfate-free shampoo.
Regularly use a natural hair oil (e.g., Rosemary Hair Oil from Evergetikon).
Protect your hair from sun and heat.
Limit washing to 2–3 times a week.
Pamper your hair with a nourishing mask or oil wrap.
